The Association of Leicestershire Artists is a long established diverse group of Fine Art graduates, friends who did their degrees at the local universities of Loughborough and de Montfort.
We meet up once a month to discuss work in progress, artists work, plan group exhibitions, sketch out together etc Rags to Riches: We are currently working on a group project (alongside our other interests) - Rags to Riches - which we will all respond to in our own particular way. Vivien Blackburn is looking at Harlequin and Columbine of the Comedia del Arte - the ragged, patched costumes of the travelling players (the patches were the origin of what came to be the traditional diamond patterned Harlequin costume), candle stage lights catching the fabric , years of wear and tear but under the stage lights - glamour. Time is an element, hundreds of years of evolution, history and wear and tear superimposed. Glen Heath is looking at markets and rummage sales. In response to our group title. Charity shops play a major part in these still-life paintings retaining narrative and figurative roles. Squidgy toys, figurines, brazen flowers and the odd nude painting come alive amidst lolling bedspreads and peacock shutters. Links: Our facebook page |
